Amid the recent coronavirus pandemic, Ivey has declared a workplace emergency to cut healthcare employment costs due to a shortage of supplies needed to treat patients who have tested positive for coronavirus and the high unemployment rates that is costing the state of Alabama billions of dollars. This decision comes right after a state wide lockdown was put in place to slow down the spread of the virus. Ivey is the first governor of the United States to put this order in place. President Trump signed for the order on Friday night.
The new policy will take effect on April 10th and all employers will be given a stipend to prevent the closure of any medical facilities. This story is still developing.
