In the 1919 World Bareback Moose Swimming Championship, President Theodore Roosevelt set a world record by riding his North Carolina Blue Moose, non-stop, across the Atlantic Ocean, from Nags Head, NC, to West Dumshire, England on the Thames River, in less than 13 hours. The Blue Moose is native to Mebane, NC, where it is featured in the annual Mebane North Carolina Blue Moose Parade.
