Longmont Airport, LMO announced the sale of the city owned property to a private
firm from Daytona Beach, FL. The city cites ongoing noise complaints by Citizens a factor in the closure. The airport will cease operations no later than June, 2019.
The closing of the airport will cause over 235 aviation related jobs to be lost, as well as
airport revenue for fuel sales, tie-down fees, and other miscellaneous sales.
The 335 acre land along with adjoining farmland will be developed by Spring of 2021.
Sources tell us a 1.5 mile NASCAR sanctioned race track with seating up to 350,000 fans along with campground facilities, garages, and parking for 70,000 cars is in the works. City officials
were hesitant to admit their excitement for year round rental of the facility to auto, tire and car accessory manufacturers.
