Secreatry General of the U.N. considers banning Internet, claiming

After extensive study, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recommends that use of the Internet should be restricted, if not banned as it has become increasingly clear that people have no way to tell fake news from real news. "Although we will never be 100 able to determine whether an article is real or not, there should be some way for people to determine if a story is likely true", said U.N. Specal Counsel of Research and Information, John Bolton. "For example, perhaps if there was some sort of way to search the Internet, a web site where you could put in the basic information of a story and it would provide you with several links to help verify the accuracy of the original story. If the Leaders of the Internet could come up with something like that, perphaps we could rescind the ban."

Critics of the ban argue that even if such a search site were to be developed, there are obvious flaws. Sean Spicer, spokesman for Web Habits And Tracking (W.H.A.T.) tweeted, "Sure, such a site might be helpful, but who would actually use it? How you enforce its use? Plus what about satire and parody?"

Bolton said there is no timetable for implementation of the ban, perhaps early 2018. "We'd like to do it sooner, but we do not want to interfere with online holiday shopping."
