As reported earlier today, a lion was witnessed by a frequent user of the Monon Trail between 75th and 86th streets this past Wednesday evening. IMPD and Animal Control spent the majority of the day in that vicinity searching for the most dreaded big cat on earth. Multiple reports came in around 5 p.m. that the Lion was in fact tranquilized. These reports have now been confirmed by our staff, namely Benjamin Woodward, who was reporting all day from the location of the sighting. The Lion was first seen today at approximately 1 p.m. by a biker, who immediately alerted authorities. As a group, made up of IMPD and Animal Control officers moved in, the Lion started to flee, but to no avail. It was immediately shot, with a non lethal round of tranquailizer, and it is currently being held at the Indianapolis Zoo. Most experts believe this Lion made its way to the area in hopes of finding a Tiger to fight and kill. Luckily for all of us, we can sleep well tonight knowing that this beast poses no threat to us anymore. Please follow @cassmcgowan to get more updates as they develop.
