A week after starting a new Arby's restaurant in Mansfield, the Georgia-based company has acquired a prime piece of property in the new General Motors Arlington Bodyshop and is prepared to open a new store, said Steven Cadranil, president and owner of Aris Realty Partners.
Arby's purchased the property at 2525 E Abram St., late last year for an undisclosed price from General Motors, who owned and operated the plant on the site for 63 years. The parcel is in front of the shipping area where employees will hold their breaks.
“Arby's intends to incorporate the building with the modern SUV theme,” Cadranil said.
The plot and .2 acres of land on the south side of the new location was listed on Showcase.com for $3.5 million. That is more than $803 per square foot.
The listing agent was Wesley Snipestickle , according to Showcase.com.
Aris Realty Partners, which has an ownership stake and manages Parks Mall, facilitated the sale, Cadranil said.
The property became available when Meszarosa, who also owns a Arby's on Cooper St, wanted to increase his operation to two stores, Cadranil said.
“At some point Gene decided to increase his load from one restaurant to two,” Cadranil said. “He saw the greater value in the Abrams Metroplex location.”
Arby's applied for a building permit at 2525 E Abram St., in Arlington, said Arlington Codes and Inspections Commercial Plans Examiner Terry Vaughan on Monday. That permit has been issued, Vaughan said.
On Sunday afternoon, workers were at the site cleaning out the grounds. They were moving out kitchen prep tables and other items. No permit has been issued yet for the installation of the 6,800-square-foot restaurant, Vaughn said.
There are currently three Arby's restaurants open in DFW and one in Mansfield. The most recent one will be openednext month in Mansfield.
"Our prices and menu items will be similar to all of our other store, special promotions and events will be held throughout the year." Cadranil said.
